With more than 17 million mobile communications customers, the freenet Group is Germany’s biggest network-independent telecommunications provider.
Its business centres on mobile communications and mobile Internet with high-quality standards. As a mobile service provider, the company markets, under its own name and for its own account, mobile communications services for all mobile network operators. In addition to its own network-independent postpaid, prepaid and no-frills services and rates, the company also offers the network operators’ rates. Its focus is primarily on the B2C business with private households. In addition, freenet sells mobile communications devices and additional services in the field of mobile data communications.
freenet enjoys an excellent positioning in the German mobile communications market, thanks to
- its strong “mobilcom-debitel” mobile communications brand and the no-frills brand “klarmobil”,
- around 800 branded shops, which ensure great proximity to the customer,
- a broad presence in retail, electronics and superstores,
- certified independence and competence in providing customer consultation and product selection.
The company also operates the freenet.de online portal, which supports building and expanding the mobile portal activities with its established content competence and more than 6.6 million e-mail accounts. The portfolio is rounded off by the online marketing agency freeXmedia, which at year-end 2009 was handling the marketing for more than 60 portals not operated by the Group. The freenet Group generated a revenue of 3.65 billion euros in 2009, of which nearly 96 percent were incurred in the Mobile Communications segment.
At 31 December 2009, the Group had a total workforce of around 4,400 employees at its headquarters in Büdelsdorf and ten other sites in Hamburg, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, Bonn, Erfurt, Kaiserslautern, Kiel, Oberkrämer, Elmshorn and Velten.
